Fruiting body development is the most critical stage in the entire maitake mushroom cultivation process. The cultivation and formation of primordia require stimulation by weak light, with light intensity controlled between 50–100 lux. If the intensity exceeds this range, the mycelium will fail to form primordia.Temperature must also be carefully controlled. Sudden drops in temperature will directly cause primordia to shrink and stop growing. This condition is irreversible; once it occurs, the entire cultivation process will cease.

The key factors in fruiting body management are light, air, and humidity. Light intensity should be gradually increased up to 500 lux to promote primordia differentiation. This also effectively enhances the aroma of maitake and deepens the color of the mushroom bodies. The concentration of CO₂ should be maintained below 100 mg/L to ensure normal development and opening of the fruiting body caps. If CO₂ concentration exceeds this threshold, shrinkage may occur, negatively affecting the quality of maitake mushrooms.
