Lions’ Mane Fruiting Body Growth Management Techniques –Temperature Management
After the Hericium erinaceus cultivation bags are unpacked and arranged, they enter the fruiting management stage. The effectiveness of fruiting management techniques is one of the key factors determining high yields in bag cultivation. During this period, based on the environmental requirements for Hericium erinaceus growth and development, it is essential to strengthen the management of temperature, humidity, light, and ventilation to achieve high yields and high-quality products, ensuring better economic returns.
Temperature Management
Hericium erinaceus is a mesophilic fungus. During the fruiting body growth and development stage, the temperature should be maintained between 16-20°C. Since the optimal temperature for mycelial growth in cultivation bags is approximately 25°C, the temperature should be reduced from the mycelial growth phase to the optimal fruiting temperature. Under suitable temperature conditions, it generally takes 15-20 days from the formation of small buds to mature mushrooms ready for harvest. Both excessively high and low temperatures are detrimental to fruiting body development. When temperatures exceed 23°C: Fruiting body development slows,Spines become elongated,Mushroom heads become small and soft,Abnormal formations occur (branched or cauliflower-shaped malformations),pineless “bald” mushrooms may appear,Above 25°C, mushroom shrinkage occurs. When temperatures are too low:Both differentiation and growth of fruiting bodies slow down,Below 12°C, fruiting bodies often turn orange-red,Below 6°C, fruiting body growth completely stops. Therefore, special attention must be paid to temperature control during the fruiting stage, particularly during primordia formation when the temperature in the mushroom house must be maintained at 16-20°C, otherwise primordia formation will be difficult.
