False mushrooms will consume the nutrients and moisture of the logs, which will affect the high yield and quality of the shiitake. Although false mushrooms will soften in the later stage, they are prone to growing green mold. If there are too many false mushrooms—covering the entire surface of the logs—those logs will basically not produce good shiitake and will have almost no yield.
