How to cover the ground film when cultivating Morchella edulis in soil

After placing the nutrient bags , it is necessary to cover them with black plastic film. Typically, 0.8 to 1.4 mil thick perforated black plastic film is used, with a width large enough to cover the entire bed surface and the trenches. The main functions of covering the black plastic film are water retention, moisture preservation, temperature regulation, weed control, and reducing the formation of fungal mats.

However, covering with black plastic film is not suitable under all conditions. When soil moisture is excessively high for a long time, covering with plastic film can lead to excessive humidity beneath the film, promoting the growth of aerial mycelium and forming a fungal mat on the surface, which can hinder the formation of primordia and prevent fruiting. Therefore, when the soil surface is too moist, the covering of the plastic film should be delayed or avoided.If the black plastic film has already been applied and there is excessive moisture and vigorous aerial mycelium growth, the film should be removed promptly to reduce soil moisture and air humidity.

If aerial mycelium has already covered the surface, it can be manually raked off to expose the soil. After inducing primordia, normal fruiting can resume.
